A game of bluffing and betting. Don't flip a skull!
A fast, tense game of pure bluffing. Each player secretly stacks a disc face down, a rose or a skull. On your turn you either add another disc or open a bid, claiming how many discs you can flip and reveal nothing but roses. Bids climb until someone commits, then that player flips the promised number, starting with their own stack. All roses and they win the round; a single skull and they lose a disc, leaving them weaker for the next one. Win two bids and you take the game. There is no luck here, only reading the table and holding your nerve.
How to play
Skull is a game of pure nerve. Each round you secretly stack discs, then bet on how many roses you can flip face-up without ever turning over a skull. Pull off two bets and you win.
Setup
Everyone gets the same four discs: three harmless roses and one deadly skull. You place them face-down, so no one knows which is which.
Playing a round
Place your discs
To begin, everyone secretly places one disc. Then, on your turn, you either stack another disc face-down or open the betting. Discs pile up, hiding where the skulls are.
Make a bet
A bet is a promise: I can flip this many roses, face-up, without hitting a skull. Once a bet is made, no more discs are placed. Going around, each player either raises the bet higher or passes. When everyone but one player has passed, the highest bidder takes on the challenge.
Flip the discs
You flip discs face-up one at a time, looking only for roses. You must start with your own stack (newest on top), then you may flip the top disc of any other player's stack.
Win or bust
Reach your number in roses and you win the challenge. Win two challenges and you win the game. But flip a single skull first and you fail: the round ends and you lose one of your own discs at random. Lose them all and you are out.
The art of the bluff
Hiding your skull in the pile is risky but powerful. Opponents who fear it will not dare bet high. The catch: if you win the bet, you must flip your own stack first, skull and all. Bet big to bait, or bet low to bluff your way out.
